FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE
Fighting for justiceI met with Ricardo Skerrett today, immigration attorney in SWFL. We talked about immigration policies here in the U.S., and the struggles people are facing. He works everyday to help his clients achieve citizenship, despite many living in Collier County, a participant of the 287(g) program. For my senior capstone project, I am working with my team to document immigration here in SWFL, and the effects the 287(g) program have on communities with a high immigrant population. | Fighting for justiceSkerrett is an attorney who truly understands his community and its needs. Being an attorney near a county with 287(g) makes things a lot more complicated. In one second, your client can be detained by a police officer and reported to ICE. Knowing your community is everything. | Fighting for justiceSkerrett explains to us the effects the 287(g) program has on his clients. He also mentions he has received an increase of clients on DACA, who worry for their future here in the U.S. |
